Become a Member of VAC/GMHC
At Thorne Harbour Health, our organisation is comprised of two legally incorporated associations, the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC) and the Gay Men’s Health Centre (GMHC). Over the years, we have had overlapping membership and work together under a single board of directors elected by the membership of each organisation. We encourage all new members to join both organisations.
Since our formation in 1983, our members have been an integral strength of the organisation. Working together, our members ensure that we remain on track to achieve our original mandate, ‘Until the epidemic is over’, and represent the community at all levels of the Victorian response to HIV. In addition, our members amended our Constitution to formally acknowledge that its purpose is also to improve the health and wellbeing of LGBTI communities through a range of
support programs and services. Our work in this space includes:

VAC/GMHC is actually two associations. There are historical differences between the associations which were due to accessing funding in the 1980s. Currently though, VAC holds the funding contracts, GMHC holds the assets and they are governed by a joint Board. Despite GMHC’s name, we would encourage members to become members of both associations.
